Polish prosecutor Ewa Wrzosek has gained recognition for her bold and independent stance against the ruling party’s interference in the judiciary and electoral affairs. With a career spanning over twenty-five years in the legal field, Wrzosek has garnered significant attention for her professional achievements. In addition to her legal work, she is also an active member of the “Lex Super Omnia” association, which staunchly advocates for the autonomy of prosecutors and the preservation of the rule of law. Wrzosek’s dedication to upholding justice and defending the principles of democracy has made her a prominent figure in the fight against political interference in the legal system.
A Commitment to Justice
Ewa’s marriage to Piotr Wrzosek, a fellow prosecutor, is a true reflection of their unwavering dedication to their profession. Throughout their journey, the couple, who are proud parents to two grown daughters, have encountered numerous obstacles as a result of Ewa’s professional choices and the subsequent disciplinary measures imposed on her by the authorities. Despite these challenges, their commitment to their work and each other has remained steadfast. Their shared experiences have undoubtedly strengthened their bond and solidified their resolve to continue fighting for justice. Ewa and Piotr’s enduring partnership serves as an inspiration to others, showcasing the power of love and shared values in overcoming adversity.
A Sudden Change
In 2021, Ewa faced a challenging situation as her professional life began to impact her family life. She was assigned to work in Śrem, a town located around 300 km away from her home in Warsaw. This sudden decision came as a shock to her family, especially her mother who required care, and her daughters. Unfortunately, the Prosecutor General Bogdan Święczkowski, who made this decision, seemed to overlook Ewa’s circumstances, such as her lack of accommodation and transportation in Śrem.
Ewa’s two daughters, whose names remain undisclosed, have expressed their worries about their mother’s safety and well-being. Despite their concerns, they continue to support their mother’s career choices. In a 2020 interview, Ewa disclosed that her daughters were somewhat surprised by her decision to investigate the potential health risks associated with the presidential elections held during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. However, the investigation was abruptly closed, and Ewa faced disciplinary consequences.
A Life Rooted in Polish Heritage
Ewa’s life revolves around her Polish heritage and roots. She was born and raised in Warsaw and pursued her legal studies at the University of Warsaw. Beginning her career in the prosecution service in 1995, she has worked in various district prosecutors’ offices across Warsaw, including Wola, Żoliborz, and Mokotów. However, her time as the head of the Mokotów office in 2016 came to an end due to disagreements with higher authorities. Ewa has been involved in several high-profile cases, such as the investigation into the death of Igor Stachowiak and the alleged corruption of former Prime Minister Beata Szydło. Recently, it was revealed that she fell victim to Pegasus, a spyware software that hacked her phone and accessed her personal data in December 2021.
