As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman, our thoughts and prayers are with John J. Hughes, her children, and the entire extended family during this difficult time of saying goodbye.

A Life of Love and Family

Peggy Ann Hughes, a native of Orangeburg, SC, was the youngest of five children born to B.F. Smoak and Lurene Garrick Smoak. In 1960, she married John J. Hughes, embarking on a lifelong journey of love and companionship. Together, they raised four children in a home filled with laughter and cherished memories.

Peggy was a devoted wife and mother, a pillar of strength for her family. Her unwavering love and dedication were evident in how she nurtured and supported each family member. She found joy in simple pleasures like visiting Hammricks and McDonald’s, but most of all, in spending quality time with her loved ones.

Peggy was a woman of faith, finding solace and inspiration in Orangeburg Baptist Tabernacle. A private graveside service at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens will honor her life, marked by love, family, and deep-rooted faith. May her legacy shine brightly through the lives she touched.
